Hilton will open its first Spark by Hilton property in Italy at Milan Linate Airport by autumn 2026, a 118-room hotel developed with Ele Spa, chaired by Fabiano Rebecchini. The signing marks the Italian debut of Spark, described by Hilton as its fastest-growing global brand, with 242 operational hotels and 193 in the pipeline worldwide.

Why Linate, and why Spark?

The Linate project is Hilton's fifth with Ele Spa. Facilities will include a 24-hour market, three meeting rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, a gym and a complimentary Hydration Cart.

David Kelly, senior vice president, Continental Europe, told Il Sole 24 Ore that Spark targets a segment "more and more in demand both by big property investors and by business tourism." Kelly framed the launch as a strategy to "garrison the mid-range segment" rather than expand by count alone. The Linate hub was selected for connectivity and high-traffic positioning. Kelly said: "Spark is currently the fastest growing brand globally for Hilton."

What does the Italy pipeline look like?

Italy already hosts 11 Hilton brands. The group targets more than 130 operational and pipeline hotels by 2029, with 22 new openings over the next three years, six of them in 2026. Priority cities are Rome, Milan, Florence, Venice, Turin and Naples.

Alan Mantin, vice president development, Southern Europe, said: "Globally, Hilton enjoys a 14% premium over the competition on the average rate and this translates into a higher margin for the owner." Hilton Honors has reached 250 million members globally, anchoring repeat demand.

The United States is the top nationality for overnight stays in the group's Italian hotels, followed by Italy itself and Europe more broadly. Recent Italian openings include the Hilton Garden Inn Colosseum in Rome and the Tapestry Puccini in Milan. Kelly called the team "extremely satisfied with occupancy and rates" at both assets. New Milan projects include the Canopy on Via Torino and a Curio at Gae Aulenti, building an "ecosystem that covers every style of stay."

How is the renovation programme reshaping Italian assets?

Hilton runs a parallel redevelopment across heritage assets. The Hilton Milan finished a full restyling. The Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri in Rome is undergoing room renovations to global luxury standards.

Naples sees the Hotel Oriente convert to DoubleTree. Sicily's Hotel Quiete in Giardini Naxos joins the Tapestry Collection for the Taormina market. Turin remains on the radar after a renovation tying food and beverage to local community programming.

Hilton has earned "Great Place to Work" certification in Italy for four consecutive years. Kelly called the recognition fundamental to delivering the "magic" international tourists expect from Italy.

What did Q1 2026 reveal about Hilton's global momentum?

Hilton posted Q1 2026 revenue of $2.94 billion, net profit of $383 million and EBITDA of $901 million. Comparable RevPAR at constant exchange rates grew 3.6% year-on-year. The group added 16,300 rooms to its portfolio and approved 26,200 more for development.

The global pipeline now stands at 527,000 rooms across 129 countries. Hilton raised its full-year 2026 forecast after the quarter.

What happens next?

The Spark by Hilton Milan Linate Airport opens before autumn 2026. The broader Italian pipeline runs through 2029, with the Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri renovation, Naples DoubleTree conversion and Sicily Tapestry signing all due to weigh on owner sentiment in Rome, Naples and Taormina over the next 12 months.
